Your body is your own best healer, endowed with a wisdom that knows the way to wholeness. I am here to help remove obstacles that interfere with the flow of well-being; and to listen to what is behind symptoms.
People come to this practice for many reasons — pain, internal medicine concerns, chronic conditions, or a desire for greater balance and well-being. Care begins by listening carefully to the body and responding with attention and respect.
My work is rooted in Traditional Oriental Medicine, which I have practiced since 1987, and has expanded to include acupuncture, herbs, microcurrent therapy with the Dolphin Neurostim™, Functional Medicine, wellness coaching, BodyIntuitive™, and a heart-centered approach I call The Signature of the Heart. These modalities are used thoughtfully and in combination, according to each person’s needs.
I work with clients in person and virtually, often integrating multiple approaches to support the body’s natural capacity for regulation and healing. The work is collaborative, grounded, and responsive rather than prescriptive.
Beyond the clinical setting, I am sustained by daily meditation and service through the Peace Education Program. I am also the author of The Hole in the Sky, a novel that explores themes of loss and healing.
It is a privilege to offer my experience and expertise.

For over three decades, my path in natural medicine has been a continuous journey of integration, weaving together the most effective healing traditions from both East and West.
My foundation was laid in Traditional Oriental Medicine at Emperor’s College, and I have been a Licensed Acupuncturist, Herbalist, and Board-Certified practitioner since 1987. Very early on, I was drawn to the precision and elegance of Japanese Acupuncture, which has been a core part of my practice for nearly thirty years.
My career began in Boulder, Colorado, and a personal life change later brought me to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Weaverville, North Carolina, where I now offer both in-person and virtual care to clients across the country. This change of scenery deepened my connection to nature and its role in healing, but my core mission has remained constant: to provide truly holistic and effective care.
My practice has always evolved by seeking out the best tools for healing. This has led me to advanced studies in Functional Medicine, Auricular Therapy, and the ReCODE 2.0 protocol for brain health. I have incorporated innovative modalities like the Dolphin Neurostim™ for microcurrent therapy and, most recently, the BodyIntuitive system. This allows me to blend the timeless wisdom of herbs and acupuncture with cutting-edge science, creating a unique approach.
At its heart, our work together is about listening to your body’s innate wisdom. We collaborate to release patterns that no longer serve you and repattern your nervous system, making a state of well-being your new normal.
Outside of my practice, my life is nourished by a daily meditation practice, volunteering with The Prem Rawat Foundation's Peace Education Program, swimming, walking and creative pursuits like painting and writing. I am endlessly inspired by the natural world right outside my door and am grateful to share this land with the wild creatures of these mountains.
It is a profound privilege to guide others on their path to reclaiming their vitality. If you're ready to explore what's possible, I invite you to reach out.

While I offer a range of tools and practices—The Signature of the Heart is the foundation of my work and is present in every session, regardless of the modality used. It is an approach grounded in presence, deep listening, and attunement to the body’s subtle signals.
Fostering the Body’s Innate Intelligence
Rather than focusing on techniques alone, this work creates a safe, coherent field in which the nervous system can settle and the body’s innate healing intelligence can emerge. The tools I use—acupuncture, Dolphin Neurostim™, nutrition, BodyIntuitive, and integrative guidance—support this process, but they do not define it.
Supporting Your Inner Healer
Healing unfolds when the body, heart, and nervous system feel safe enough to reorganize naturally. My role is not to direct or fix, but to help create the conditions in which your own inner healer can come forward.
Complementary Care
The Signature of the Heart can stand alone or enhance other therapies—acupuncture, counseling, or medical treatments—creating coherence across mind, body, and heart.
I specialize in using the Dolphin Neurostim™ as a modern form of acupuncture — without needles. This handheld device allows me to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians with a precise, gentle microcurrent, while also giving me greater range to work directly with scars, pain, and areas of restriction in the body.
A Gateway to Calm:
The Dolphin’s primary frequency mirrors the natural rhythm our cells use to communicate. When applied, it sends a signal of safety to the entire system. Many clients naturally drift into deep relaxation as their nervous system shifts from stress into restoration. This is especially soothing for the vagus nerve, which supports relaxation, digestion, and healing.
Precision That Honors the Body:
By working with the body’s own language — the frequency of healthy cellular repair — this therapy supports your innate wisdom without force. It reminds the body of its natural state of balance and vitality. It can also help clear scar adhesions, release tension, and ease pain.
Support for Neurological Health:
With advanced training in concussion and brain injury care, I use the Dolphin Neurostim™ to support clients with TBIs, head injuries, and other neurological challenges. The gentle frequency calms inflammation and activates the brain’s natural healing processes, in a way that is both non-invasive and deeply effective.
Clients often describe the sensation as a warm, soothing pulsation that invites the body into a profound state of healing rest.
Chinese herbal medicine is a cornerstone of my work. It’s more than simply “taking herbs” — each formula is carefully tailored from roots, barks, flowers, and minerals to help guide your body back to its natural balance.
Personalized Formulas:
I begin with a detailed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis, such as identifying Qi deficiency or Liver Fire. From there, I design a formula that addresses the root cause of imbalance rather than just easing symptoms. Herbs are prescribed in accessible forms such as powders, pills, or tinctures. Raw herbs are available if preferred, though I rarely use them.
Why I Cherish This Practice:
Herbal medicine is a holistic and elegant system. I select herbs not only for their therapeutic actions but also for their energetic qualities — warming or cooling, nourishing or dispersing — and their specific connection to TCM organ systems. It feels like composing a symphony of botanicals to create harmony unique to you.
Continuous Support:
Herbal formulas work gently yet consistently, supporting healing every hour of the day between sessions. Each prescription draws on a wisdom refined over thousands of years, offering both comfort and profound effectiveness.
Functional Nutrition is a science-based, patient-centered approach that views food as a tool to optimize how the body functions. Rather than simply treating symptoms with diet, it looks at the root causes of imbalance — such as inflammation, gut health, hormonal shifts, or micronutrient deficiencies.
Biochemical Individuality:
Every person’s body is unique. Functional Nutrition goes beyond “one-size-fits-all” advice and creates highly personalized plans informed by your individual biochemistry, often guided by lab testing.
Systems-Biology Approach:
This modality views the body as an interconnected network — digestive, endocrine, immune, and beyond. By working across systems, it uses food, nutrients, and lifestyle choices to restore function and harmony.
Root Cause Focus:
The goal is always to ask why. Why is there fatigue? Why is there bloating? Why is the body out of balance? Each recommendation is designed to answer those questions and support long-term health.
Coaching begins with a fundamental truth: you are the expert of your own life. You know your strengths, you’ve faced your obstacles, and within you lies the wisdom and resilience to heal and grow.
A Collaborative Partnership:
My role is not to direct you, but to walk alongside you. I ask powerful questions that help you access your own knowledge. In BodyIntuitive sessions, I may also use neuromuscular feedback to receive insights directly from your body’s wisdom.
Strength-Based Approach:
This work is always collaborative and grounded in your lived experience. Whether we are using acupuncture and herbs, focusing on Functional Nutrition, or working with BodyIntuitive, the process remains yours. We draw on your inner resources and your body’s intelligence to guide deep, lasting healing.

Hippocrates, 460-370 BCE — Father of Western Medicine
Six years ago, after Thanksgiving dinner, my gut completely shut down. For years, I consulted various doctors and a naturopath who all assured me I was fine — one even suggested prescribing a Proton Pump Inhibitor, which I instinctively knew wasn’t the right solution.
After enduring four years of discomfort, a friend recommended I connect with Barbara for wellness coaching via Zoom. She attentively listened to my concerns, reviewed my medical records, and suggested a combination of Traditional Oriental Medicine and Chinese herbs to ‘re-activate’ my digestive system. Though I was skeptical, I remained hopeful.
The bottom line: my digestion gradually grew stronger, and today I live and eat normally, with no restrictions. I’m immensely grateful for the experience, which included insights from acupuncture and the principles of BodyIntuitive!
Barbara’s treatments, which include Acupuncture and elements of Traditional Oriental Medicine, are amazingly therapeutic, unique, comprehensive, and calming to the nervous system. Her approach is targeted at treating the whole body, mind, and soul. I have never met such a warm and wise practitioner who listens intently to my symptoms, but really pays attention and treats the underlying cause. Barbara’s awareness of the subtle, the unseen, and the emotional layers of my physical issues, combined with her wellness coaching, is truly what sets her apart from other practitioners I have seen.
I was diagnosed with leukemia 6 years ago. I had heard great things about Barbara’s work with cancer patients, especially her use of acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine. Today, I am stronger, eat better, and feel better. My blood cell count has elevated somewhat, but is largely stable, and the leukemia has not progressed. I attribute this improvement to the excellent care I receive from Barbara, her knowledge, her loving hands, and her kindness of spirit, along with the wellness coaching she provides.
